• Smiley Martin

I recently talked to an old friend of mine from grade school. We weren’t just friends, we were BEST FRIENDS. You know the kind I’m talking about. Sleepovers, dressing alike, secrets, everything. We went our separate ways during high school and after and only recently have we been in touch with each other. She is also a blogger and I am so very excited to start following her new blog when she gets it up and running. During our conversation, she happened to call me Smiley Martin, a name I haven’t heard in a very long time. I have a hard time remembering, but apparently I was a very happy child.…

  • Sunday.

Today we went to J’s parents house to wash and wax the car. On the way there Justin gave me a tour of some places he went as a high schooler and we checked out the old family homestead. We took the back roads to his parents after that and we found a road with a sign. Minimum Maintenance Road. Travel At Your Own Risk. It sounded very promising. So we went down it, of course! It was a little rough. Or a lot rough. Either way. It wasn’t good. Then it just ended. So we had to turn around and go BACK down it again. We did finally make…

  • Red Lobster.

On Saturday we went to Topeka with Matt and Aubrey for a movie and dinner. After surviving all the construction, we luckily made it to see The Magnificent Seven right when it started. Whew! We went to Red Lobster for dinner afterwards and while waiting outside for our table, we had an even better show than the movie. Traffic in the parking lot was horrendous. Then, there was a van who couldn’t figure out how to park in between the lines. Which means that when another van tried to pull in to the next spot, there was a wee bit of scratching! One of the vehicles on the other side…

  • Vacation.

One more thing. We are on vacation right now, or technically, a stay-cation. We didn’t go anywhere spectacular. We are just staying home, doing things we never actually have time for, or things we don’t want to make time for on a daily basis. I worked a half day, out at noon, on Wednesday. However, it was a GREAT half day. I was offered a position in Loan Ops that I had applied for, but wasn’t sure if I would be able to get. At the bank, you have to be with the company for 6 months before you can transfer departments but since I had previous banking experience they…

  • Designated Survivor.

I am a huge Italia Ricci fan. She is a great actress and her twitter feed is hilarious. She is in a new TV show that just came out, Designated Survivor. It. Is. So. Gooooooooooooood. I had no idea that the designated survivor was a real thing, but it is. According to Wikipedia… In the United States, a designated survivor (or designated successor) is an individual in the presidential line of succession, usually a member of the United States Cabinet, who is arranged to be at a physically distant, secure, and undisclosed location when the President and the country’s other top leaders (e.g., Vice President and Cabinet members) are gathered at…

  • Bentley’s Buddies.

So it has been a few days weeks since I have posted. Sorry about that. I wish I had a decent excuse, but it was pretty much pure laziness. It has been a busy couple of weeks though. I’m going to start with Bentley’s Buddies Batting for Down Syndrome. It is an annual Duck Soup Softball Tournament ran by our friends Matt and Aubrey (mostly Aubrey). I’m honestly not sure how many years she has been doing this but it is the 2nd year that we have participated. Aubrey’s daughter Bentley has down syndrome. I adore B. She gave me a hug the first time I met her, and I…

  • Sugar.

My sister has an autoimmune disorder. One of the things she has decided to try was to remove sugar from her diet for 30 days. In order to help her with this, us other two have decided to join her. Today is the beginning. I’m a little nervous. I have been looking into the withdrawal symptoms. I don’t think this will be pretty. Apparently I can look forward to: Anxiety Depression Impulsive Behavior Hunger and Cravings Headaches. Lots and lots of headaches. Low Energy Muscle aches, nausea, insomnia, and boredom. Luckily most of the articles I read say that most of the symptoms only last for the first seven days…

  • Next Up, Pickles!

Then on Monday, which should have been a day off but was hard work, I went to a friend’s house to make pickles. It was a good time with lots of girl talk.   I really don’t think we had enough jars……….. We did have to run back into town to get more jars and other stuff at Menards. I love that place. I found some fantastic cutting boards for 99 cents. I really didn’t need them, but, hey, 99 cents. Then these gems showed up in my sight. I splurged so we could have a celebratory drink after we got done! The gorgeous finish product!

  • Canning, Rednecks and Music.

This weekend I spent a lot of time in the kitchen. We went to my in-laws on Sunday where my mother-in-law showed me how to make salsa. It was fantastic! I learned so many things. Like, how to peel tomatoes. Who knew that if you made a tomato hot, the skin would just pop off? I love cold tomatoes with salt so I have never had the need to heat up tomatoes. Also, I chopped a jalapeno for the first time in my life. Canning has such fun utensils, like that fun little magnetic stick thing. Isn’t it pretty? While supper was cooking I found some good books. This struck…

  • Update On Being Kind.

Also, it has been…2 days since I was going to try being kind. It has not gone well. Nope. Not well at all. This is going to be harder then I thought. Way harder. Way, way harder. Hard. Very Hard. -Rebel
