For Christmas, I had asked my mother for a sewing basket. In that basket was a piece of my youth. My aunt had included an old bucket list I had made while I was living with her. Let’s see… Skydive Dance like no one is watching Write a book Find God Kiss a stranger Learn to belly dance Learn the guitar Start waking up at 5 a.m. Go to Africa Pay off credit cards (we once again have credit card debt, but I had paid off them all at one point) Learn a foreign language Shoot a gun Get married Golf Learn to surf Go bowling in a prom dress…

Angel Food Cake Recipe.
When I think of Angel Food Cake, I always think of my Grandma, my dad’s mom. She always made a homemade angel food cake for every family get together. After she died, my Aunt Mariane started making them. From there, I started making them for the county fair. Aside from last year, when I made one for my f-i-l, I hadn’t made on in years. I love making them! Except for the fact it takes what seems like 1 million eggs (in reality, 14), it’s super easy to make! Try for yourself and enjoy! (p.s. You will need an Angel Food Cake pan!) It takes lots of mixing. (shout out…

Losing Weight Sucks.
There I said it. Losing weight seriously sucks. It sucks bad. I know everyone tries to make it super positive and motivational and easy, but sometimes…it. just. sucks. Sometimes I don’t want to be positive. Maybe, I just want to let you my inner fat girl and let her fly. So I can sit on my living room floor again with a 2-liter bottle of Pepsi, eating chinese honey chicken and green beans, double chocolate chip cookies from Subway, cheesy breadsticks from Pizza Hut, french fries from Hardees, and popcorn from the local movie theater. Yes. You read that correctly. I used to do that. If I had a really…

The Women of Washington.
As the new year begins, I like to take time to think over the past. One leg of my life was spent in Washington, Ks. My grandparents lived there, and raised my mom and aunt there. My aunt Colleen still lives in Washington. After I dropped out of college and toodled around for a little bit, I moved in with Colleen after my Grandma died (Grandpa died many years before). I was lucky enough to get a job at a bank when I was 19. I will be eternally grateful for that job. I met so many people, made many friends, and learned how to actually talk. I was so…

Living by the Little Apple.
Now that we are officially settled into our home (which is a short…10 miles? from Manhattan), I will be spending a lot more time focusing on this blog. For the past couple years I’ve used this blog just as a tool to write a little bit, get some stuff on paper, metaphorically. Now, I’ve decided to dedicate it more towards life in Kansas. Since Manhattan has K-State and is so close to Ft. Riley, we get a lot of ‘outsiders’ in the area. A lot of them think there is nothing to do here. I want to prove them wrong. Kansas has always been my home, and probably always will. Kansas…

To A Childhood Friend.
As 30 quickly approaches, I’ve been doing much internal searching. Regrets, people/things I’m thankful for, choices I’ve made… One of the things I’ve thought a lot about lately is a girl who I grew up with. We actually went to Kindergarten together, but she went to a different school for a couple years. She came back once that school combined with ours when we were in the 4th grade. I don’t really remember if we became friends right away, or if it took a little bit. I just remember at some point, we were practically sisters. We looked similar, so we even started dressing the same. I know one day…

New Pillows!!
Pillows. In the living room. Aka…for the couch and chairs. This has been an ongoing argument since June when we bought our new couches. These are 100% the ugliest pillows I’ve ever seen (or owned) in my entire life! If you like them, congrats! I still have the covers and would love the send them to you! In reality, the leathery brown side (which is exactly like the couch, which makes sense because they came together) is super comfy and nice to nap on, but the other side…*shudder*. Our house has a lot of brown, so I really wanted to pull some color up from the rug. Because these do.…
